The Statistics Department at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in statistics, as well as a minor in statistics for students in other majors. Our faculty members are experts in a wide range of areas within the field, including data analysis, statistical modeling, and statistical computing. We offer courses that cover both theoretical and applied statistics, and our students have the opportunity to engage in research projects with faculty members and participate in internships with industry partners. The department is committed to providing students with a strong foundation in statistical theory and methods, as well as the skills needed to apply these tools in real-world settings. Graduates of our program go on to successful careers in a variety of fields, including academia, government, and industry.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) Statistics programme of the department was one of the three (3) programmes approved to be run by Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics since the establishment of the University in 1990. The programme could not start until 2004/ 2005 academic session when the human power of trained statisticians of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics improved. The programme started   with thirty-seven (37) students and the following academic staff: Prof. O.S. Adegboye, Dr. J.O. Olaomi, Mr. K. Ayinde, Miss. D. B. Adekanmbi and Mr. K.O. Obisesan. So far, three sets of students have been graduated.

Senate at one of its regular meeting of early 2012 approved the establishment a new Department of Statistics to continue to house the B. Tech. Statistics programme of the University. The department took-off on 1st August, 2012 with the list of staff already provided.

 

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

 
 

The main objectives of the department are:

-   To provide adequate training of professional statisticians who will be able to apply statistical techniques in the scientific study of problems and who will be competent enough to undertake research activities in various branches of statistics.

-  To give instructions in statistics to those who require them in some other disciplines in the various department of the University.

-  To engage in research in the field of statistics in order to advance the frontiers of knowledge in statistics and technology, and

- To render consultancy services in relevant areas of statistics to the University, members of the University community, government, the private sector and members of the community at large.

The department offers a programme leading to the award of  B. Tech. Statistics. 

MODES OF ADMISSION

 
 

AdmiAdmissions can be sought into the B. Tech. Statistics programme of the department

    through the following modes:

 

(i)         Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) leading to admission into 100 level.

(ii)        LAUTECH Pre-Degree Programme leading to admission into 100 level

(iii)       Direct Entry leading to admission 200 level

(v)        Approved change of course in the University leading to admission into 200 level

 (iv)     Approved transfer from other University into any level provided the University regulations for such admission 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 
 

-    To be eligible for admission by any mode, a candidate must possess at least five credit passes in the WAEC/NECO, SSCE or O/L GCE. The credit pass must include English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at not more than two (2) sittings.

-    To be eligible for admission into 100 Level, a candidate must pass both the UTME and the University post UTME Examination or score a minimum of 250 marks in the University Pre-Degree Final Examinations.

-   To be eligible for a direct entry admission, a candidate must possess at least one of the following:

 

(i)            A/L GCE or equivalent qualifications with passes in Mathematics / Statistics, and any one of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics and Geography.

(ii)           NCE (Maths/Stats) with minimum grade of B,

(iii)          OND (Statistics) with a minimum of Upper Credit Pass

(iv)         HND (Statistics) with a minimum of Lower Credit Pass

-     To eligible for transfer from another programme within the University to   the B.   Tech. Statistics programme, a candidate can do so through the University approved process, provided the candidate meets the initial requirements for  admission into the B. Tech Statistics programme.

-   To be eligible for transfer from another University into B. Tech Statistics   programme, a candidate must satisfy the University regulations governing this mode of admission into the University.
